Israeli airstrikes in Gaza continue, leaving 21 dead and dozens injured

Israel has continued its airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, which began yesterday. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, the strikes have resulted in the deaths of 21 individuals, including six children, and have injured 64 people, 21 of whom were children. The Islamic Jihad Movement, which Israel claims to have targeted, has been the subject of a ceasefire mediated by Egypt, according to spokesperson Dawoud Shehab. The ceasefire has reportedly taken effect, as confirmed by Egyptian media. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that the country’s operations against the Islamic Jihad Movement are ongoing, suggesting that Israel’s attacks will continue.

Israeli Forces Seize Gaza-Bound Aid Ship, Detain Activists

Israeli forces raided the Madleen, a humanitarian aid ship from the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), in international waters en route to Gaza. The FFC reported that 12 activists, including climate activist Greta Thunberg, actor Liam Cunningham, EU lawmaker Rima Hassan, and two Turkish nationals, were detained and taken to Israel.

The ship, which departed from Sicily on June 1, aimed to break the blockade on Gaza. According to the FFC, Israeli forces used drones, tear gas, and signal jammers during the raid. Video footage showed the activists with hands raised as Israeli troops boarded.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry mocked the mission, calling the vessel a “celebrity selfie yacht” and claiming it carried minimal aid. It said all detainees were unharmed and would be deported.

The Madleen was towed to the Israeli port of Ashdod. The raid comes amid continued Israeli military operations in Gaza and increasing international criticism over humanitarian access.
