Israeli army hit Khan Younis and Nuseirat Refugee Camp: 50 dead

The Israeli army launched air attacks on Khan Younis in southern Gaza, resulting in the loss of at least 40 Palestinian civilian lives and numerous injuries. Furthermore, a house in Nuseyrat Refugee Camp in central Gaza was also targeted, claiming the lives of 10 civilians.

The conflict intensified as Kamal Adwan Hospital, situated in the Cibaliye Refugee Camp in northern Gaza, became a focal point. The hospital, sheltering approximately 7,000 Palestinians, was reportedly surrounded by Israeli forces using tanks and snipers. Gaza Ministry of Health Director General Mounir Al Barsh expressed grave concerns about the situation, stating that patients and refugees in the hospital were under immense fear and pressure to evacuate. Despite the threats, medical personnel vowed to stand by their patients and continue their services within the besieged hospital.

Moreover, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the encirclement of the Jabalia Refugee Camp and claimed control over alleged Hamas military positions in the area. The escalating conflict has raised fears of further civilian casualties and humanitarian crises within Gaza, prompting international concerns and calls for de-escalation.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said the recent peace talks in Istanbul have brought a new dimension to diplomatic efforts on Ukraine and proposed a leaders’ summit hosted by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. “A summit with leaders from Russia, Ukraine, and the US could help achieve a long-term ceasefire,” he said.

Speaking at a joint press conference in Kyiv with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, Fidan emphasized Türkiye’s ongoing diplomatic efforts, stating that President Erdoğan has been working actively since the war began. He added that talks in Istanbul on May 16 led to concrete results, including a prisoner swap.

Fidan shared insights from his prior visit to Moscow and said Russia is open to further talks on June 2. He stressed the importance of continuing momentum and involving international actors to build common ground for peace.

Fidan is also scheduled to meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Andriy Yermak, Rustem Umerov, and representatives of the Crimean Tatar and Gagauz Turkish communities.
