A red alert was issued today on Italy’s Sicily Island due to a forest fire caused by strong winds and high temperatures. While many people had to leave their homes due to the fire in the Brancaccio district of Palermo, education was suspended in schools near the city. Mayor Giuseppe Muffoletto called on local residents to take measures to prevent the fire from spreading.
Temperatures in many cities of Sicily Island today exceeded seasonal averages and reached 34 degrees.
