Kazakhstan Faces Massive Flooding, Evacuates Thousands

Evacuation operations are underway in Kazakhstan due to severe flooding caused by heavy rains and melting snow. The Ministry of Emergencies of Kazakhstan reported that over 86,000 people, including 29,000 children, have been evacuated since March 20. Approximately 8,473 individuals, including 4,055 children, have been provided temporary shelter. Search and rescue missions are ongoing, involving 5 helicopters, 2,500 vehicles, and 23,000 personnel.

The flooding has affected 3,365 homes in regions such as Aktobe, Akmola, Kostanay, and Northern Kazakhstan, with Atyrau experiencing the most significant impact, affecting 2,810 houses. The Northern Kazakhstan region is particularly vulnerable, with 33 settlements facing a high risk of flooding due to rising river levels, notably the Yesil River.
