Kirkuk’s Turkmen Governor Agha Takes Office After Taking Oath

Muhammed Seman Agha, the head of the Iraqi Turkmen Front (ITC), who was elected as the governor of Kirkuk province in Iraq, officially started his duties after taking the oath. This marks the first time in 102 years that a Turkmen has held the governorship in Kirkuk.

 

Meeting with Sudani

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Sudani received Kirkuk Governor Muhammed Seman Agha. According to a statement from the Iraqi Prime Minister’s Press Office, Prime Minister Sudani congratulated Agha on winning the confidence of the Provincial Council and wished him success in his duties. The meeting discussed the general situation in Kirkuk, particularly plans and projects aimed at developing the service sector. Sudani stated that improving public services would contribute to the stability of the city and serve the interests of all. He reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting and strengthening local administrations, highlighting the importance of accelerating service and development projects in Kirkuk.

The last time a Turkmen was elected governor of Kirkuk was in 1924.
