Cemil Kuru, 65, has been handcrafting traditional butter churns (yayık), oven shovels, and floor tables in Tokat province of Türkiye for 50 years. Working alone in his small workshop, he is the last remaining master of churn production in the region, keeping a fading tradition alive. Demand for his handcrafted churns has declined, with only seasonal buyers and small cafés still interested. Kuru, who inherited the craft from his father, laments the lack of apprentices, stating, “This profession will end with me in Tokat.”
