Lava flowing from the Cumbre Vieja Volcano on the Spanish island of La Palma reached the Atlantic Ocean. Spanish officials said lava flowing into the ocean could trigger eruptions and clouds of toxic gases. Authorities urged citizens outside to find a safe place to take shelter. “The residents must strictly abide by the curfew when the lava reaches the ocean.” Head of the Canary Islands Volcanic Emergency Plan Miguel Angel Morcuende said. No casualties or injuries were reported to date.
