Leader of the Islamic Jihad Movement Dies in Israeli Custody After Hunger Strike

A Palestinian prisoner, Islamic Jihad Movement leader Khader Adnan, was found unconscious in his cell in the morning after being on hunger strike for 87 days in Nitzan prison in Ramle, Israel.

On February 5, Israeli authorities detained Khader Adnan in the northern West Bank city of Jenin on accusations of being related to the Islamic Jihad Movement, helping terrorism, and inciting the public. Adnan, who has been jailed 12 times by Israel since 2004, has served a total of 8 years in prison and has gone on at least 5 hunger strikes.
