Mexican protestors kidnaps mayor of Tepeyahualco

In the city of Tepeyahualco, located in the Mexican state of Puebla, 100 people protested in front of the City Hall. The protesters demanded an explanation from the authorities on the grounds that the city government had failed to intervene adequately in the forest fire in the area.

Hours later, the protesters met with Monica Martinez, the mayor of Tepeyahualco, and a few other city council members at the city hall. Mayor Monica Martinez and members of the city council were kidnapped by a group of 30 people after the authorities and protesters were unable to reach an agreement during negotiations.

The protesters who requested the resignation of the mayor and other officials threatened to burn them to death if their demands were not met. Puebla State Interior Minister Julio Roberto Gomez stated that the Puebla State Police will carry out an operation in the city of Tepeyahualco and the kidnapped officials will be rescued.
