Mexico’s Popocatepetl Volcano spews ash and smoke

According to Mexico’s National Center for Disaster Prevention (CENAPRED), 5 eruptions have occurred in the last 24 hours at Popocatepetl Volcano, with gas and smoke being recorded 132 times from the volcano’s mouth. The ash that was mixed with the air from the volcano’s mouth as a result of the eruptions spread to the east and northeast with the effect of the wind. Residents in the states of Puebla and Tlaxcala were advised to take precautions against possible ashfall and mud that may occur with rain.

Popocatepetl Volcano had 113 eruptions last year, with 36 eruptions in December alone. Six eruptions have been recorded so far this year.
