Mongolia Grapples with Record Snowfall Since 1975

Mongolia is currently facing its highest winter snowfall since 1975, with the National Agency for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring reporting an average snowfall of 9.6 mm this season. The extreme weather, characterized by heavy snowfall and frequent blizzards, has affected almost all provinces, covering over 80% of the country in snow. The harsh conditions have taken a toll on livestock, with the number of deaths reaching 667,841 due to the severe winter weather. Mongolia, known for its nomadic traditions, contends with a challenging continental climate featuring strong winds, snowstorms, and dust storms.
