mongolia plants 10m trees in a year

Since the beginning of the nationwide tree-planting initiative, “Billion Trees”, in 2021, Mongolia has planted 10.2 million trees around the country. The effort is expected to improve the country’s forest coverage to at least 9% by the target year and cut carbon emissions by roughly 600,000 tons.

According to President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh, the campaign aims to plant at least a billion trees by 2030 to combat desertification.

According to the government, desertification and land degradation have already devastated 77 percent of Mongolia’s overall area, with only 7.9 percent presently covered by forests.
