Muslims perform first tarawih prayer at the arrival of Ramadan

With the beginning of Ramadan, Muslims all around the world flocked to mosques to do the tarawih prayer. Despite Israel’s restrictions, thousands of Palestinians from Gaza, Jerusalem, and the West Bank gathered at Mosque al-Aqsa for their first tarawih prayers.

Muslims also gathered to mosques during the night prayers in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s capital, where many Ramadan customs have been kept alive since the Ottoman period. In addition to the traditional cannon fire from the Yellow Bastion, hundreds of children released colorful balloons into the sky to welcome Ramadan.

In Cologne, Germany, many Turks as well as many Muslims of different nationalities performed their first tarawih prayer at the DITIB Central Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the country.

After the Ruet-i-Hilal committee declared that the first day of Ramadan starts tomorrow, Muslims gathered to mosques across the Pakistan, particularly in Karachi. The first tarawih prayer was held at the Memon Mosque.

In Azerbaijan, the first tarawih prayer was held throughout the country, particularly in Baku, when Azerbaijanis packed the Haydar and Ejder Bey mosques.

Additionally, the Tarawih Prayer is a special prayer that Muslims only do during the month of Ramadan. It is a sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), which implies that performing Tarawih was his habit, and Muslims are urged to do the same, although it is not mandatory.
