The death toll from a fuel tanker overturning on the Dikko-Maje road in Niger state, Nigeria, has risen to 86. According to emergency officials, 80 victims were buried in a mass grave, while the rest were claimed by relatives.
Most victims were locals who gathered to collect spilled gasoline when the tanker overturned. Fuel tanker accidents are frequent in Nigeria, with a similar tragedy in October 2024 claiming 170 lives in Jigawa state.
