Another 600 balloons carrying garbage, such as plastic bags, pieces of paper, and cigarette butts, were sent from the North Korean capital Pyongyang to the border regions of South Korea at around 20:00 local time yesterday. Citizens in Gyeonggi province, where most of the balloons mostly landed, were called not to touch the bags and to report them to the security forces, and an investigation was launched on waste suspected to contain toxic chemicals.
North Korea, which announced that it would retaliate against the propaganda leaflets sent by South Korean activists to North Korea with balloons, had sent 260 balloons carrying garbage such as propaganda leaflets, plastic bottles, batteries, shoe parts and fertilizer to the border regions of South Korea as of Tuesday night.
