Over 60,000 Asylum Seekers Gather at Mexican Border as US Covid-19 Regulation Ends

The T42 legal regulation was put into effect in March 2020 under the previous administration of President Donald Trump as a response to the global Covid-19 pandemic in the US. The regulation allowed for the return of illegal migrants to Mexico. However, the regulation ended at 11:59 pm last night, resulting in tens of thousands of migrants moving north towards the US border in recent days.

According to Raul Ortiz, Chief of US Customs and Border Protection, more than 60,000 immigrants are now waiting at the border to cross into the US. He also stated that border security teams are on high alert against illegal immigrants who are expected to enter the country, and that the number of immigrants in border patrol facilities has exceeded capacity.

The termination of the T42 legal regulation has led to a surge in asylum seekers at the border, raising concerns about border security and immigration policies.
