While Imran Khan supporters in Pakistan resume protests alleging fraud in the general elections held on February 8, Rawalpindi Commissioner named Liaquat Ali Chattha admitted yesterday that he was involved in the fraud in question. Chattha, who held a press conference at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, said that the 13 losing National Assembly candidates were portrayed as having won by 70,000 votes, and resigned.

The Election Commission of Pakistan rejected Chattha’s claims and said that no commission official had instructed the Rawalpindi commissioner to change the election results and that no commissioner had a direct role in the conduct of the elections.

Ukrainians Protest Anti-Corruption Law

0

The Ukrainian parliament’s passage of a law limiting the powers of anti-corruption institutions sparked widespread protests across the country. Demonstrators in cities like Kyiv, Lviv, and Odessa decried the law as an “authoritarian move” aimed at consolidating President Zelensky’s power.

Zelensky defended the law, citing the need to purge anti-corruption agencies of Russian influence. He stressed the importance of ensuring justice and accountability. Tensions rose after NABU investigated high-profile political cases, leading to raids on anti-corruption offices by security forces. The new law places NABU and SAPO under the Prosecutor General’s Office, allowing greater government control over their activities.
