Following the Israeli attacks on Gaza that intensified last night, thousands of French people gathered in Chatelet Square in Paris, the capital of France, despite the ban of the French Ministry of Internal Affairs. Marching in support of the Palestinians, the protesters chanted slogans such as “Gaza, Paris is with you” and “What is being murdered is humanity.”
The police’s attempt to prevent the crowd from advancing led to a brawl, during which press members were beaten as well. Intervening in the brawl with tear gas, the police announced that the demonstrators would be fined 135 euros if they continued. Some of the demonstrators shouted “We cannot be prevented from demonstrating” and “Macron is Israel’s collaborator.” The French police detained some supporters.
