Pilgrims Visit Historic Cave of Hira

During the Hajj season, thousands of pilgrims make the arduous trek up Mount Nur to visit the Cave of Hira, a site of profound historical significance in Islam. To avoid Mecca’s sweltering midday temperatures, which often top 40 degrees Celsius, many choose to begin their steep ascent during the cooler hours of dawn or late night. After a challenging climb to an altitude of 621 meters, visitors reach the small cave where the Prophet Muhammad is believed to have received his first divine revelation. Inside the narrow space, pilgrims offer prayers and recite verses from the Quran to honor the site where the Prophet once sought spiritual seclusion. Religious officials note that the cave remains a deeply emotional destination, reflecting the origins of the Islamic faith and the enduring devotion of its followers.
