Protests erupted once more in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi against the “Transparency of Foreign Influence” bill, criticized for potential curbs on free speech and NGO activities. Demonstrators gathered at the parliament building, denouncing the bill’s reintroduction and discussion in parliament.
Tensions escalated as police intervened with tear gas and water cannons to disperse the crowd after warnings. Protesters retaliated by throwing objects at the police. The exact number of injuries and detentions is yet to be disclosed.
President Salome Zurabishvili has pledged to veto the legislation.
