Politicians brawled in Honduras Congress

Tension rose during the swearing-in ceremony at the Honduran Congress. After some members of Honduran President Xiomara Castro’s party, the Liberty and Refoundation Party (LIBRE), voted for a different candidate instead of the designated candidate, some politicians in Congress started brawling. Castro, who won the presidential election in November, agreed with the Savior Party of Honduras (PSH), with whom she had previously allied, to elect Luis Redondo to the presidency of the Congress. However, the 18 LIBRE members voted for Jorge Calix instead of Redondo. During the swearing-in ceremony after the election, some LIBRE members reacted to the LIBRE members who voted for different candidates. They took the podium and chanted “Traitors” slogan to them, while some members threw foreign objects. Those who present at the podium for the oath used transparent shields to protect Calix. However, as the tension gradually increased, a brawl broke out on the podium.
