Foam and pollution along the shores of Tuzla Wetland in Muğla’s Milas district in Türkiye are endangering the habitat of flamingos and 118 bird species. Spanning 380 hectares, this crucial bird stopover point is now affected by white foam and foul odors across a 200-meter stretch. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ceyhun Özçelik from Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University warned that drought, household waste, and chemical pollutants are driving eutrophication, harming the wetland’s ecosystem. He urged authorities to investigate and address the pollution urgently to preserve the area’s biodiversity. Drone footage captured flamingos in the affected region.
