The center-right minority government in Portugal, led by Prime Minister Luis Montenegro, fell yesterday after failing to win a vote of confidence in parliament, held as a result of allegations of corruption by the opposition.
The people of Portugal will go to the polls for the third general election in three years. President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa announced last week that early elections could be held on May 11 or 18 if the government fails to win the vote.
