Pro-Independence Party Wins Greenland Election

Greenland’s pro-independence center-right party, Demokraatit, won the parliamentary elections with 31% of the vote. The Naleraq party, which supports secession from Denmark and closer ties with the U.S., secured 24.5%, while Prime Minister Mute Bourup Egede’s Inuit Ataqatigiit finished third with 21%.

Amid the election, U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated his desire to annex Greenland, citing its strategic importance. He offered economic investments and security assurances, stating, “If you want, we invite you to be part of the greatest nation in the world.” Greenland’s Prime Minister has firmly rejected Trump’s proposals, emphasizing the island’s autonomy.
