Pottery in Turkey is in danger of extinction because no apprentices are trained, despite being one of the oldest professions in history and still resisting technology today. Pottery master Selim Çolak, who presented his works to citizens at the Altıneller Traditional Handicrafts Festival in Edirne, Turkey, made pottery and informed people about his art. Selim Çolak, a 60-year-old pottery master who kneads clay soil with his hands and produces handmade products such as pots and vases, stated that there will be no masters to do this profession in 10 years, and he complained that he did not have an apprentice.
Explaining that he is now continuing the pottery profession that his ancestors, who migrated to Turkey from Bulgaria, started centuries ago, Çolak said that the pottery profession is in danger of extinction. Since no apprentices are trained, the pottery produced by hand will be replaced by the products produced in the factories, Çolak added.
