Nearly 93 million voters in Nigeria are heading to the polls to elect the country’s new president. The voting process, which started at 08:30 local time, will end at 14:30.

A new head of state, who will serve for the next four years, must receive at least a quarter of the votes in 24 of the 36 states to win the election. The counting process will approximately take a few days, but the official results are expected to be published next week.

If none of the 18 candidates competing in the election can reach the desired rate of votes, the two candidates with the most votes will compete in a secondary election.
