Prince Charles delivered the opening speech of the UK Parliament instead of the Queen

The UK Parliament held the opening ceremony of the new legislative year on 10 May. In the ceremony that Queen Elizabeth II did not attend for the first time in 59 years due to health problems, the opening of the parliament was made by Prince Charles and Cambridge Duke Prince William instead of the Queen. Prince Charles read the opening speech on behalf of the Queen at the ceremony. Stating that the government’s priority is to grow and strengthen the economy, Charles stated that the government also will take drastic measures against human trafficking in the English Channel and North Sea. Expressing that the police will be given new powers to make the streets safe, Charles said a bill will be introduced to increase their powers to combat illegal financing, reduce economic crime and help businesses grow. Charles added that the British government would lead the way in ensuring security around the world.
