Prisoner exchange process begins in Yemen between government and Houthis

A three-day process for the exchange of prisoners has begun between the Yemeni government and the Houthis, as per a recent agreement between the two parties. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) stated that the first plane carrying prisoners departed from Sana’a, which is under Houthi control, to Aden, controlled by the government. The prisoner exchange process will release a total of 887 prisoners, with 70 individuals from the government and 250 from the Houthis to be released on the first day of the process.

The operation will continue for three days, with prisoners from cities including Marib and Mokha in Yemen, as well as the Saudi Arabian cities of Riyadh and Abha, to be released. This move comes after negotiations held in Switzerland’s Bern, where the parties agreed to the mutual release of prisoners.
