The public protested in Berlin, Germany’s capital, to keep the monthly 9-euro public transportation ticket in effect. Activists protesting in Berlin’s capital gathered at the Gesundbrunnen train station. The 9 euro per month public transportation ticket, which was brought in for three months due to Berlin’s high inflation, is coming to an end. German Railways (DB) announced that 26 million tickets have been sold nationwide to date. More than 38 million tickets were sold in three months, according to reports.

Environmental associations also support the continuation of the practice for the environment and climate. Thanks to cheap public transport tickets, it is thought that many vehicle drivers will turn to public transport and harmful gas emissions will decrease. Director of the Federal Environment Agency Dirk Messner stated that with the cheap ticket application, public transportation may come to the fore as an attractive alternative over time.
