The protests, which started in the Iranian capital after Mahsa Amini’s death on September 16, continue 40 days later in Amini’s hometown, Sakkız. According to the semi-official Iranian Students’ News Agency (ISNA), a commemoration ceremony was held in Sakkız on the 40th day of Amini’s death. Although Amini’s family said that they would not hold a commemoration ceremony, locals gathered at Amini’s grave in the early hours of the morning and chanted anti-regime slogans.
Shopkeepers in Sanandaj and Marivan cities of Kurdistan province closed their shutters.
Anti-regime groups have called for demonstrations across the country, and demonstrators are expected to protest Amini’s death in the country today.
