Protests continue 40 days into Mahsa Amini’s death

The protests, which started in the Iranian capital after Mahsa Amini’s death on September 16, continue 40 days later in Amini’s hometown, Sakkız. According to the semi-official Iranian Students’ News Agency (ISNA), a commemoration ceremony was held in Sakkız on the 40th day of Amini’s death. Although Amini’s family said that they would not hold a commemoration ceremony, locals gathered at Amini’s grave in the early hours of the morning and chanted anti-regime slogans.

Shopkeepers in Sanandaj and Marivan cities of Kurdistan province closed their shutters.

Anti-regime groups have called for demonstrations across the country, and demonstrators are expected to protest Amini’s death in the country today.
