Nine people, including four Turks, who died in the racist attack in Hanau, Germany’s Hessen state, on February 19, 2020, were commemorated at Hanau Central Cemetery. Participants left flowers on the graves of the victims and prayed at the commemoration ceremony, which started with a moment of silence. Turkish and German dignitaries also attended the ceremony.
“Turks in Germany have lost more than 50 victims to right-wing extremism and racism in the last 30 years. These incidents—the NSU murders, the Hanau, Möln, and Solingen attacks—need to be fully investigated so that similar attacks and massacres that may occur in the future can be prevented,” said Ahmet Başar Şen, Türkiye’s Ambassador to Berlin.
