Listed as a “cittaslow” (quiet city), Kemaliye is home to the world-renowned Dark Canyon and its 7-kilometer cliffside stone road with 38 tunnels and a zipline, attracting motorcyclists and adventure seekers alike.
Among its unique landmarks is a cliffside house built by retired teachers Nermin and Bekir Taştan using only basic tools and a homemade cable car. Perched atop 96 steps, the house has become a district icon and even featured in the Turkish comedy “Düğün Dernek 2.” With attractions like rafting, hiking, and cultural heritage sites, Kemaliye stands out as a must-visit destination in eastern Türkiye.
