On Thursday morning, Russia has pushed the start button of attack against Ukraine after Russian President Vladimir Putin gave orders to military operations to the country. With the start of the attack in the early hours of the morning, explosions were heard in the Ukraine’s capital city of Kiev, and in the city of Kharkiv. In addition to the explosions, sirens echoed in Kiev, while citizens began to leave the city. After the attacks started by Russia, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Ivanovych Kuleba made statements.
“Dear citizens of Ukraine. As of this morning, Putin announced that the war in Donbas has begun. Russia hit military and communication points. Our border troops are also under attack. Sounds of bombing were heard in many parts of Ukraine. We will declare martial law throughout the country. We talked to US President Joe Biden and they will help,” Zelensky said while urging the public to remain calm.
