The first results of the presidential elections in Paraguay, held on Sunday, April 30, have been announced. According to the statement made by the Paraguay Electoral Court, after 85% of the ballot boxes were opened, Santiago Pena, the candidate of the conservative Colorado Party, won the one-round presidential election with 43.5 percent of the votes. Efrain Alegre, the candidate of the opposition centre-left alliance, came in second with 27.58% of the vote. The voter turnout reached 59.75 percent.
