A fire broke out in a Catholic school in Kolwezi, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Lualaba province in the country’s south. The fire began in the school’s dormitory and spread to the other educational facilities. To escape the flames, dozens of schoolgirls jumped from the roof at a height of about 3 meters.
A communications official in the Lualaba provincial government said at least 97 students were hospitalized, including around 30 with fractures, although there were no fatalities.
