An explosion occurred after a truck carrying explosives to the mines in Chirano collided with a motorcycle in Apeatse, between Bogoso and Bawdie in the Western Region of Ghana, local police stated. While local residents were warned to stay away from the scene, search and rescue efforts continue in the area, police added. Casualty is not yet known.
Eyewitnesses stated that many people lost their lives and were injured in the explosion. Many buildings were destroyed and a large pit was formed as a result of the explosion, according to images shared from the area where the blast occurred.
