Severe Floods Hit German State of Saarland

Heavy rain that occurred recently in Germany’s Saarland state, on the border with France, caused floods. Streets and basements of houses were flooded at various different points, especially in the state capital Saarbrücken. Boats were allocated to rescue those trapped in their homes.

The German Weather Service announced that more than 100 liters of rain per square meter had fallen in less than 24 hours. Such floods occur every 20 to 50 years, state officials said.
