Three Spanish Muslims on a horseback pilgrimage to Hajj stopped in Istanbul to break their fast, reviving a 500-year-old Andalusian tradition. Dr. Abdallah Hernandez, who vowed 35 years ago to undertake the journey if he became a professor, said, “It was time to fulfill my oath.”
Starting in southern Spain four months ago, the group has traveled through multiple countries, including Bosnia and Türkiye. Despite border challenges, they continue toward Saudi Arabia via Syria. The pilgrims were warmly welcomed in Türkiye, where they shared their experiences with young people and officials after iftar.
