Strike and protest of transportation sector workers in Germany

Upon the call of the workers’ union Verdi and the railway workers’ union EVG, transportation sector workers started a 24-hour strike from midnight on the grounds that their salaries were insufficient in the face of rising living costs in Germany. Following the strike, tens of thousands of employees participated in marches and rallies held in many cities. Authorities stated that public transportation in the country came to a standstill and a total of 380,000 passengers were affected.

There was no disruption in urban transportation in Berlin, as employees of BVG, the urban public transport network in Berlin, did not participate in the strike.
