Strikes against pension reform continue in France

Protests continue against the pension reform in France, which aims to gradually increase the retirement age from 62 to 64.

Unions called for “stopping life” across the country. Many professions including drivers, cleaners, refinery workers, railway workers and teachers supported the strike. As a result, schools were suspended and public transportation and refineries had been disrupted.

General Confederation of Labor (CGT) leader Philippe Martinez stressed that this strike against the government’s pension reform is the strongest social movement since 2011 and announced that they will continue strikes and demonstrations without interruption until the decision to reduce the retirement age to 62.
