The commencement of the Axiom-3 space mission, featuring Türkiye’s inaugural astronaut Alper Gezeravcı, has been officially announced. The Falcon-9 rocket, carrying Gezeravcı into orbit aboard SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft, achieved a successful launch from Florida’s Kennedy Space Center at 00:49 GMT. Following the launch, SpaceX reported that the Falcon-9’s reusable first stage booster is set to land at Landing Zone 1 (LZ-1) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. The crew, including Gezeravcı, will engage in over 30 scientific experiments focusing on human physiology and industrial developments during their time in space, as stated by SpaceX.

Governor Phil Murphy urged residents to stay home, as submerged vehicles and flooded roads paralyzed districts like Somerville and Plainsville. In New York City, subway lines 1, 2, and 3 were suspended, with water pouring into stations like 23rd Street. Social media footage showed stairwells turning into waterfalls and passengers stranded in subway cars.
Floodwaters also disrupted traffic on Manhattan’s FDR Drive. Nearly 18 million people across the East Coast, including in Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, remain under flood warnings.
