Swedish Climate and Environment Minister Romina Pourmokhtari made history by bringing her three-month-old baby to an EU Environment Council meeting in Luxembourg. The 30-year-old minister used the occasion to champion supportive family policies, stating she is “happy to be an example of not having to choose between being a minister on duty and being a mother on duty.” According to an official, this was the first time an infant had ever attended an EU ministerial meeting. Pourmokhtari, who is Sweden’s youngest-ever minister, recently returned from the country’s generous 16-month paid parental leave. Her partner, who is also currently on leave, traveled with her to Luxembourg to help care for the child during the diplomatic trip.
