Taiwanese fighter jets landed on the temporary runway built on the highway in Pingtung county of Pingtung city, Taiwan as part of the annual Han Kuang annual military exercise. The aim was to repel the Chinese invasion and protect critical infrastructure and night operations in the emergency take-off and landing drills. In the one-week exercise, 1 US-made F-16 fighter jet, French-made Mirage fighter jet, Taiwan-made Ching-kuo fighter jet, and an E-2 Hawkeye airborne early warning aircraft used the runway.
President Tsai Ing-wen participated in the exercise and conducted inspections, where Taiwanese pilots demonstrated the skills that would be needed in case of China attacking Taiwan’s air bases.
