Teachers and parents hit the streets in France

Teachers and parents of students hit the streets in France’s capital city of Paris. During the protest, teachers stated the government isn’t protect them, they hand out only cloth masks, and necessary precautions weren’t taken while Coronavirus’s (COVID-19) Omicron mutation cases were increasing. Parents told they had confusion about sending their children to school due to the lack of measures in education. Teachers demanded resignation of about French Minister of National Education Jean-Michel Blanquer, who was criticized by teachers and parents.

It was written on the banners that at least half of the 48.950 schools were closed. Also they were drew attention to the fact that the protest is one of the most important strikes took place in the 5th Republic period in France. Supporting the movement, the French Federation of Parents of Pupils (FCPE) has called for students to stay at home. Teachers and parents announced that the protests started today will continue across the country.

While schools in France decided to strike, Blanquer accused teachers of “striking against the virus”. Meanwhile, Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo, who entered the marching cortege to support the protests, drew reaction from the demonstrators.
