Tenerife Island wildfires waste 5,000 hectares

The fight against forest fires that started on Tuesday in the nature park in the northeast of Tenerife Island in Spain’s Canary Islands continues. The Canary Islands Emergency Service said that the flames got out of control, affecting 11 towns, but had not yet reached the touristic areas. A total of 26,000 people have been evacuated so far.

The President of the Autonomous Administration of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, stated that an area of 5,000 hectares has been wasted and that he had ordered the evacuation of more people.
