Fifteen police officers, a priest and 3 others were killed in attacks by armed attackers on a synagogue, two churches and a police checkpoint in Dagestan, Russia, yesterday. In the operation carried out at night, 6 attackers were neutralized. Security in the region was increased and an investigation was launched into the incident.
Authorities said yesterday that 25 people were injured.
Andriy Portnov, former aide to ex-Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, was shot dead in Madrid’s upscale Pozuelo de Alarcon district. Spanish authorities say unidentified gunmen opened fire as the 52-year-old was dropping off his children at school, striking him in the back and head before fleeing.
Portnov, a former MP and lawyer, fled Ukraine with Yanukovych in 2014, briefly returned in 2019, and was later sanctioned by the U.S. for alleged judicial corruption.
