thousands in Berlin marched against Ukrainian war on its 1st anniversary

On the 1st anniversary of the Russia-Ukraine war, commemorations, protest marches, rallies, religious ceremonies, and other various events were held across Germany in solidarity with Ukraine.

Two marches were held in the capital to protest the Russian occupation of Ukraine. The first march took place between Alexanderplatz Square and the Reichstag, the Bundestag building. The second protest march started in Karl-Marx-Allee and ended in front of the Historic Brandenburg Gate, and was participated by more than 10.000 demonstrators. During the march, slogans such as “Terrorist Russia”, “Send Weapons to Ukraine” and “Russia Get Out of Ukraine” were chanted.

After the march, anti-war demonstrators held a rally in front of the Brandenburg Gate. A Russian T-72 tank destroyed in Ukraine was placed opposite the Russian Embassy in Berlin as a sign of protest. Some protesters who came to the rally stood on the tank and carried the Ukrainian flag with slogans. Ukrainian Ambassador Oleksii Makeiev, Berlin Mayor Franziska Giffey and ambassadors of some other countries were also among those who attended the rally to show solidarity with Ukraine.
