US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order lifting most sanctions on Syria, White House Spokesperson Karoline Leavitt announced. The decision excludes penalties on the Assad regime, human rights violators, ISIS affiliates, and Iranian proxies.
Leavitt said the move aims to promote peace and stability, adding, “The President is committed to engaging with the new Syrian administration on a peaceful future.”
She also stated that ending the Gaza conflict remains a top priority, and Trump continues indirect diplomacy with Iran. Highlighting military and diplomatic efforts, she added, “Diplomacy, deterrence and strategic partnerships guide the President’s approach in the Middle East.”
