Turkish Minister Forges COP31 Clean Energy Pact in Paris

At a high-level dialogue in Paris, COP31 Chair and Turkish Environment Minister Murat Kurum announced a strategic clean energy partnership with the International Energy Agency (IEA). Addressing representatives from over 50 nations, Kurum emphasized that the current global energy crisis makes accelerating the transition to renewables an absolute necessity rather than just a goal. He outlined the core of the upcoming COP31 action agenda, which will prioritize energy supply security, climate-resilient cities, and accessible “clean cooking” technologies to prevent deadly respiratory illnesses in developing regions like Africa. Welcoming the new collaboration, IEA President Fatih Birol echoed the urgent need to expand secure, affordable, and sustainable energy solutions worldwide.
